Capital Campaign
Just as the Annual Fund supports the operating budget of the school, capital campaigns are conducted by schools like Miami Union Academy when the need arises for a capital addition to the campus like a new building or an addition to endowment. This is equivalent to a family deciding to renovate their house or buy a vacation home. It represents a major capital expense, one that is not done out of a family’s or school’s monthly operating budget.
On the Janie Fryson chapel is an example of addition made through a capital campaign and the same is true of the Vivian and Herbert Long Child Development Center. These facilities were built through gifts made by donors out of capital, not operating resources. Typically, capital gifts are paid over a period of three to five years rather than one year at a time like annual gifts. They are meant to be permanent additions to the campus and are honored with a naming opportunity. Hence we have the Janie Fryson Chapel and the Herbert and Vivian Long Child development Center.
Miami Union Academy is currently planning a capital campaign focused on a new state of the art school facility. Click here to see drawings of both of these wonderful facilities.
