Mr. Gaynair has been in the field of education for over 10 years. Prior to attending Oakwood, he worked for the Osceola School District as an ESE assistant; working one-on-one with a student with special needs and then as a classroom assistant for students deemed emotionally handicapped. After graduating from Oakwood, he spent a sum of one year as a volunteer missionary in the jungles of India. It is an educational system that is lacking. I’m glad to be at MUA because it offers holistic education. My goal is to help build upon and make better the already great education our school has to offer.”

Ms. Carrington has always dreamed of being a teacher since the age of 7 years old. Growing up her dream almost felt like it would not come true, in the 4th grade, it was discovered that she was dyslexic and needed to be placed in special education classes. Her educational journey was very hard and many times even tried to stop her and put her down but with the strength of her mother Sheila Carrington and her church family, and a few outstanding teachers she overcame them all. By the time she was ready for high school, she tested out of special education, turned over to mainstream education, and then promoted to honor classes at Miami Norland Sr. High School. She went on to Oakwood University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She is currently working on her Master’s.

Ms. Carrington looks forward to the opportunity to support the growth of the staff and students at Miami Union Adventist Academy now that she has moved into the role of Vice-Principal. Through one-on-one coaching with teachers, supporting students academically, and looking for ways to make community connections Ms. Carrington is ready to take on her new role.

Outside of school Rhyanne is an active church member at Tabernacle SDA in Miami. She serves as the Pathfinder Director, a member of the children’s ministry, and the hospitality team. She also sits on the Board of Trustees for the Albert C.Pierre Community Service Center.

Her favorite Bible Verse is “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” 1 Peter 2:9 This text lets her know that she was called and chosen by God to do His work.

My goal for MUAA is to lead my students to our Lord Jesus Christ and help them to be closer to Him. I believe that if our students will have that right personal relationship with God all other knowledge, wisdom, and skills will follow:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

Highest Degree Earned: Bachelor’s in theology

While growing up I always believed in God. I never read the bible and barely ever went to church. So, I was like most of the world is today. I believed in a God but that’s as far as it went. As I grew into adulthood, I decided I wanted to know more about this God. That is how I began reading the bible. Through a series of answered prayers and supernatural phenomena, God made himself real to me. I always believed in a God but there was always some doubt. So, God cleared it up. I began to receive bible studies with the Sseventh-day Adventist church and later became baptized into the faith. As I grew in knowledge and my relationship with God tightened, I was always impressed with the Idea of working for God. To do so full time and to be dedicated fully to his work on earth. This led me to study theology as I wished to prepare for this work. I went to study at Antillean Adventist University in Puerto Rico. 5 years later I graduated. Now I serve the Lord full time as Bible teacher and chaplain at MUAA. God is good. My goals at MUAA are to help promote spiritual growth and maturity among the students and staff. To help create a nurturing Christian culture and a deep love for God.

My favorite bible verse is Matthew 11:28-30.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

While I was on my way to meeting God. I had a lot going on in my life. I was heavily burdened indeed. I pleasantly found out that His yoke is easy and his burden light. This verse helped me a lot in those days and still does.

My name is Karla Moya, I was born and raised in the beautiful country of Mexico, in the state of Chihuahua. One of my favorite Bible verses is Jerimiah 29:11 which says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I know God has a plan for my life and he has been guiding me to accomplish that plan. Being part of Miami Union Adventist Academy is part of that wonderful plan. I feel happy to serve Him and to know that I can speak about His wonders every day and share that with my students.

I started to get involved in Education since I was in High School. I did a two-year career pathway in Teacher Cadet and proceed with my BA in English as a Second Language for Elementary. While I was studying, I worked as a tutor for first to sixth graders. I taught middle school and high school (English), first grade, and third grade. Lisbet Guilarte

P.E. and Spanish Teacher

Number of Years at MUAA: 13 years

Number of Years in Education:

Highest Degree Earned: Certificate in Early Childhood Education

Email Address: lisbet.guilarte@muasda.org

Ms. Lisbet Guilarte Barrios, is a native of Havana, Cuba and currently serves as the Elementary P.E teacher, as well as the High School Foreign Language teacher. I have always dreamed to work for the Lord since a very young age, and God gave me the opportunity to do so working at Miami Union Academy. Since I came to the United States, I wanted to work in a Christian environment where I was able to praise him anytime I desire. God has answered my prayer, because in January 2000 I accepted the call to join the team at Miami Union Academy with the hope and dedication of providing biblical teaching to young people.

Even though I didn’t grow up in a Christian school, I received the best education provided by my parents in which they indoctrinated me Seventh-Day Adventist education. Due to the hostile atmosphere that I received in school for testifying the Christian faith in a Communist country, I was able to complete my studies in Piano performance receiving five years of professional training at the Music Conservatory in Havana Cuba, and also in the accounting field.

I’m currently holding a certification in Early Childhood Education in which I had worked before as a P.E/Music teacher to children from age 2 to 5 at Paradise Christian School, in Hialeah Florida. In coming to Miami Union Academy, God has helped me to enjoy teaching Spanish, and Music. I had also served as Jr. High Choir pianist, International Club Sponsor, Hispanic Heritage Day organizer, and coordinated many interesting and educational field trips. My goal is to continue to grow as a professional and go beyond my duty to inspire young minds. But above all, it is my desire that when Jesus comes, every child  I have taught, or any person I have come in contact with will reach heaven to meet our Savior and Lord.

Favorite Bible verses:

“Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.” – Psalm 27:10

He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.” –  Isaiah 40:29-31

My name is Maria Goddard. I am from the beautiful Island of Cuba. I have been a Seventh Day Adventist from birth.  My teaching experience is for more than 20 years in early childhood. I accepted the call of God to work at Miami Union Adventist Academy from 2007 until the present (14 years).  My passion for teaching is to motivate the students to get interested and excited about what they are learning and to see how they develop all their skills and growth Physically, Academically, Socially – Emotionally, and last, but not least Spiritually.

I have earned a Spanish Teacher Diploma, Director Credential, Certificate of Completion for the Registered Behavior Technician Credential, and a BS with a major in Early Childhood Studies.

My goal is to inspire all my students by building trust in them, introducing them to Jesus, teaching them about his love towards us, and how to have a good relationship with him.  Also, to encourage them to create a daily quiet time habit where they learn how to grow close to God each day through our Bible learning experience.

My favorite Bible verse is I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13. This Bible verse has helped me to reach where I am and throughout my entire life. I am looking forward to the soon returning of Jesus Christ.

Marlene Newton

Highest Degree Earned: Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling

Email Address: Marlene.Newton@muasda.org

My favorite Bible verses claimed in unison are  – “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Philippians 4 :13, and “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight and plain your path.” Proverbs 3: 5 & 6 Amplified Bible.  I, with God’s grace,  have had personal experiences with both of these verses during my tenor at MUAA and throughout my life.

I have seen God work miracles with students who, when supported and encouraged to work hard and to put their trust in God with the same intensity, witnessed God’s faithfulness as they realized their goals. I have been in situations that were fraught with negative emotions, that gradually changed where were experienced intellectual clarity, and emotions that were transformed into laughter and joy after prayer was lifted up silently or audibly.  Not to mention, the times when students were making poor, poor decisions, and God was invited and welcomed into the mix. What seemed hopeless became an opportunity for God to be glorified!

Christian Education at its best is the only hope for us all.  In this environment, students,  teachers, and staff are enriched and encouraged to realize that Jesus is indeed the answer to all our needs. An education devoid of Christ’s love and power is like a car without an engine. You have the education and it may be excellent, but it is just a shell without the skills to implement God’s love and be skillfully guided by the Holy Spirit. This education is not just enriches us today, or tomorrow, but it carries us into eternity.

I love and enjoy my experience here at MUAA because I seek at all times for God’s name to be recognized and honored in what I do.

Born and raised in Elmsford, NY life experiences were centered around a community environment. Growing up playing soccer, basketball, and baseball becoming an athlete was balanced with academics. The main goal was to link sports to life and breaking the term “dumb jock” often used towards athletes. As events have happened in history and during my life, I began to search for a higher purpose and a true relationship with God. Having experienced collegiate basketball at Adelphi University gave me a view of education and how to help better communities through health and activity while receiving a bachelors in sports management. Being in education since 2013, the goal remains educating through physical activity and health how we are all important pieces to one another and our community. I am happy to be here and intend to make MUAA home.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. One of my favorite Bible verses is found in Proverbs 3:5, 6 because it reassures me that I can trust God, even plan seems unsure and the path seems treacherous.  According to this verse, I can’t lean on my own understanding of things in this world, but if I completely depend on God the long term outcome will be perfect.

I love being a part of the MUA family and I especially love watching how God works in the lives of our students and their families. There is nothing more exciting than watching a student realize their potential and their purpose, whether it’s in the classroom or in the community.  I am honored that God has allowed me to play a small role in helping our students take their place in this world.

I’m blessed to have this opportunity, where I can teach the little ones about the love of Jesus and how they can give their heart to Him. I’m a Seventh Day Adventist from birth. My desire is to do God’s will all the time and to be ready for his soon return.

My name is Tanya Guy-Francis. I am honored and blessed that I have the opportunity to work here at Miami Union Adventist Academy.  My goal is to gain as much experience that I can to better serve our students.

I have always wanted to become a teacher since I was in elementary school back In Jamaica, after completing high school, my first job was working in a daycare so I could gain the experience of working with children. I then went on to further my education not in the field that I anticipated.  The degree that I currently hold is that of an associate in paralegal studies. I’m looking into furthering my education in elementary education because I see where I can make a difference.

Since I have gained a little classroom experience while substituting for the teachers. I find that my purpose is to educate, all this time in my life I was unhappy because I wasn’t able to find the right career path. Working at MUAA allowed me to find my purpose because all this time I was stuck.

My favorite bible scripture, 1 Peter 5:7 “ Cast all my anxiety on him because he cares for you.”  Now that I find the path to take I’ve decided to assist the cook, so I could focus on my studies in elementary education. The ultimate goal is to see Jesus and in doing so I want to serve the children so they too can see him too.

My goal for MUAA is to see us grow as a school spiritually, helping our students to know Jesus, and just sharing a kind word, a smile, or even a helping hand can help someone along.

My favorite bible verse is Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Why? When I look and people and see the things they do and say or without a care of how they may treat someone, I use to get very angry and upset. How could they do it?  Why would they do it? After a while, I came across text and it helps me to realize what or who we’re up against.

Prior to coming to MUA, he taught for several years at Mt. Sinai Junior Academy in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Saunders feels blessed to have attended “THE” Oakwood University, where he developed a mind for academics and a heart for service. His studies continued in northern Ohio at Bowling Green State University, where he completed a Master of Arts degree in History, specializing in African American History, with a concentration in Slavery in America.

Mr. Saunders is passionate about Miami Union Academy, education and the students he sees each day in his History and Social Sciences classes. He considers it a privilege and a great joy to work closely with young people as they strive to become the best versions of themselves, and experience the blessings of thinking, engaging and growing. One of Mr. Saunders’ favorite Bible passages is Romans 8:31: “What shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” This powerful exhortation motivates him each morning to get up and fight the good fight.
